Al-Ihsan Foundation has a new initiative that will help many hungry and desperate people in Lebanon. The campaign aims at establishing a permanent community kitchen in Tripoli, Lebanon.
Currently, Lebanon is suffering from one of its worst economic crises in decades. Tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs across the country. Millions are struggling to buy food and other necessities for themselves and their families. Children are going hungry and cold from lack of food and clothing. All this is happening in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which has also found its way into the much struggling Lebanese community.
The crisis in Lebanon has caused the value of the Lebanese Lira to plummet to a record low. A drop in the Lebanese Lira has affected the people of Lebanon immensely and their ability to purchase and spend on essentials because Lebanon imports about 80% of its goods. The price of food has more than quadrupled. People cannot afford to buy the most basic necessities such as milk, rice and bread.
This is where we step in. Al-Ihsan Foundation is seeking to establish a permanent community kitchen in Lebanon to feed the many hungry and needy people there. The goal is to establish and furnish the kitchen, as well as ensuring it is well stocked and maintained throughout the year. The endeavour will also provide work and income as we will need to hire a chef and a few staff members to help with the cooking and the distribution of food packages daily.
The cost of the endeavour will initially be $110,000. This will cover the costs of the following expenses:
- Two ovens
- Two fridges
- A freezer
- One year’s rent
- Kitchen staff
- One year’s worth of food supplies and produce
- One year’s worth of food containers and packaging
After the establishment of the kitchen and its first year running is complete, the years that follow will only cover the expense of maintaining the community kitchen. The cost of maintaining will be considerably lower than the cost of establishing the kitchen as the kitchen will be furnished and ready to use in the years that follow.Donate Now
